Remember when you hated taking yucky medicine as a kid? Well, my older French Bulldog, Tej, is exactly the same! The second he hears the wrapper of a pill, he hides. But living in Kolkata has a sweet solution – Rosogulla! This famous Bengali sweet is the ONLY way he’ll eat his medicine. It’s so funny because he loves Rosogulla, but he won’t touch any other sweets!

Tej and Veer: My Furry Heartbeats

Let me introduce you to my two French Bulldogs, Tej and Veer! Tej is my first dog, about 3 and a half years old. He’s the sweetest, cleanest, and most well-behaved dog you’ll ever meet! He loves sweets, thinks he owns the front seat of the car, and is a professional napper. Then there’s Veer, who joined us last year. He’s only about 11 months old but already bigger than Tej! With his cool grey eyes, he even won a “Best Looking Dog” contest here in Kolkata. But personality-wise, he’s a total goofball – still learning his manners and loves to sleep in the bathroom! It’s funny because even though they’re so different, Tej and Veer eat all their meals together, even switching food bowls sometimes! They act like brothers, sometimes fighting but always best buddies.

The “Why Us?” Generation: Furry Companions in Our Prime?

I’ve been seeing something interesting lately. Everywhere I go – the vet, the groomer, pet stores, even dog parties – it’s full of young people showing off their pets. It makes you wonder, why are so many of us getting pets right now? Aren’t we supposed to be more focused on things like our careers, getting married, buying houses, and all that “grown-up” stuff?

My Two Cents: A 27-Year-Old’s Dive into Pet Parenthood
So, at 27, being a pet parent to Tej and Veer has brought so much happiness (and a little bit of craziness!). Since everyone’s sharing cute pet pictures online, this is my way of showing my love for my boys. It’s also for anyone thinking about getting a pet, or for young adults like me who had to really convince their parents to let it happen!

The Frenchie Factor: A Breed Apart (and Close to My Heart)
My love for French Bulldogs started way back when a friend in the US had one. Even around 2012-2015, they were becoming really popular. I spent years learning all about them – different breeders, their families (bloodlines), and their cool colors, trying to find the best ones here in India. What I loved most was that they’re both playful and super cuddly. Plus, they’re great for apartment living because they mostly sleep when I’m at work and are ready to play when I’m home. They just fit my life perfectly.

The Frenchie Reality Check: Beyond the Cuteness
Okay, let’s be honest about Frenchies. They have really sensitive skin, so you have to clean them regularly to keep them healthy. Also, the more unusual their color, the more energy (and sometimes trouble!) they can have. And forget long walks, especially in the Kolkata heat! They get tired easily. They really need to stay cool, and you have to be careful about their breathing.

Humorous Tales from the Trenches (of My Living Room)

Even with the challenges, my Frenchies make me laugh all the time! They absolutely LOVE car rides. They stick their heads out the window, watching everything, and everyone stares at them – it’s so funny! It’s our weekly thing, but we have to blast the AC after just a few minutes if it’s warm. Another funny thing is they do EVERYTHING together. Eating, sleeping, walking, car rides, even getting their nails done! They even bark at anyone who sounds like they’re arguing – they’re a little team! But the best thing is just watching them be brothers and best friends, having the time of their lives together.

The Rise of the Furry Family: Why Our Generation is Pet-Obsessed

It looks like a lot of people my age are choosing pets over some of the usual “grown-up” things, maybe because those things are happening later in life. We’re also realizing how good pets are for our mental health. Since many of us are working from home now, it’s easier to have a pet. And honestly, the pure love and connection you get from an animal is just amazing – sometimes it feels even stronger than other kinds of relationships for some people. Social media definitely plays a part, too! All those cute pet videos and famous pet accounts online make you really want one. Pets aren’t just animals anymore; they’re family, and we’ll do anything for them, no matter the cost.

The Paw-sitive Impact: More Than Just a Pet
My Frenchies have really taught me to never give up! They are so determined to get what they want, and it actually inspires me. They’ve also made me less stressed, happier, and given me a reason to be responsible. Plus, they’ve helped me talk to new people and even reconnect with old friends. But the best thing is the pure love they give me. The way they look at me, how excited they are when I come home, even their funny attempts to protect me – it makes our bond stronger every day.

Join the Pack!

Having pets isn’t always a walk in the park, but the huge happiness and constant love they give us is way more important than any hard work. They make our lives better and kinder, sometimes without us even noticing. So, if you’re thinking about getting a pet and you see all those cute pictures online – maybe it’s time to get one! You might find that your life becomes so much richer with a little (or in Veer’s case, not so little!) furry friend.
